CaSDaR Contributes to Portuguese Data Stewards Network Session on Electronic Research Notebooks
In March 2026, CaSDaR was pleased to contribute to a recent event on the Portuguese Data Stewards Network (RPDS), organised through the Re.Data initiative. The event focused on Electronic Research Notebooks (ERNs) and explored their role in supporting effective research data management, reproducibility, and open science practices. As part of the event, Dr Samantha Pearman-Kanza (CaSDaRs PI) delivered a presentation exploring how electronic research notebooks can enhance data capture, organisation, and reproducibility in research workflows. The talk highlighted the role of ERNs in supporting FAIR data practices, enabling structured and well-documented research outputs, and facilitating integration with wider digital research infrastructures.

Announcing the results of CaSDaR’s Funding Call Round 1
CaSDaR launched our first funding call in November 2025, with applications closing on the 22nd January 2026. Our reviewers had a month to review the applications, before our review panels for the £5k funding stream and £70k funding stream met on the 5th March 2026. The quality of the applications we received was incredible and we did not know how we would be able to decide on only funding a few of those applications.

CaSDaR Presents on FAIR Data and ELNs at RSC Analyticode Conference
On the 16th March 2026, Samantha Pearman-Kanza of CaSDaR presented at the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Analyticode conference, which brings together researchers, data specialists, and professionals interested in the intersection of analytical chemistry and digital innovation. As part of the conference, Samantha Pearman-Kanza (CaSDaR) delivered a presentation titled “The FAIR Quest: You Can't Shortcut Your Way Through the Data Castle.” The talk challenged the perception of FAIR data as a simple box-ticking exercise or something that can be achieved retrospectively through digital tools alone.

N8 CIR Event – Learn how publishing in data journals can increase awareness of your research
Data journals are a format of publication that publish datasets or ‘data papers’ rather than conventional research articles. They offer a route to increase the visibility of research data outputs whilst also rewarding creators with a peer-reviewed publication, credit, and increased opportunity for citation (Walters, 2020). This event will feature presentations from researchers from a range of disciplines, in both STEM and the humanities, involved in editing data journals, who will share their experiences and advice with attendees. The event will introduce the concept of data journals and how they operate and explore best practices when submitting papers to these journals or developing data journal publications. There will be opportunities for questions and discussions throughout the event.
