About the Event
On the 16th March 2026, Samantha Pearman-Kanza of CaSDaR presented at the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Analyticode conference, which brings together researchers, data specialists, and professionals interested in the intersection of analytical chemistry and digital innovation. The event provides a platform to explore how digital tools, data practices, and emerging technologies are shaping the future of chemical research.
Event Programme
The conference programme focused on the use of digital approaches and computational tools in analytical science, including data management, automation, and the integration of digital workflows into laboratory practice. Sessions explored how digital transformation can enhance the quality, reproducibility, and usability of research data, alongside broader discussions on innovation in chemical data science.
Event Audience
The conference was aimed at researchers in analytical chemistry and related disciplines, as well as data professionals, software developers, and others interested in digital transformation in the chemical sciences. It was particularly relevant for those working at the interface of laboratory practice, data management, and computational analysis.
Event Organiser
The event was organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry Interest Group: Chemical Information & Computer Applications Group (RSC-CICAG), and the Southwestern region of the Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Science Community. CICAG works to: Support users of chemical information, data and computer applications and advance excellence in the chemical sciences, inform RSC members and others of the latest developments in these rapidly evolving areas; and promote the wider recognition of excellence in chemical information and computer applications at this level. The Analytical Science Community brings together members from across industry and academia with scientific and professional interests in analytical science. The Community allows members to stay informed of developments in the field, provides a forum for analytical chemists and scientists to exchange information and ideas, promotes skills and education in analytical chemistry.
Outputs
As part of the conference, Samantha Pearman-Kanza (CaSDaR) delivered a presentation titled “The FAIR Quest: You Can’t Shortcut Your Way Through the Data Castle.” The talk challenged the perception of FAIR data as a simple box-ticking exercise or something that can be achieved retrospectively through digital tools alone. It emphasised that FAIR data must be established from the point of creation, requiring well-planned, structured, and consistent data capture practices supported by good data stewardship. The presentation explored the complexities of implementing FAIR principles in practice and highlighted how tools such as Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs) can support FAIRer data—but only when implemented and used effectively as part of a broader data management approach.
