Prior to the formal launch of CaSDaR, Samantha Pearman-Kanza presented on data stewardship and offered a sneak peak into CaSDaRs plans at the Research Data in the Physical Sciences: A Forum for Librarians and Research Support Professionals.
This in-person forum, held at the University of Edinburgh, was designed for data librarians and research support professionals working within the physical sciences across the UK and EU. Over the two days, attendees engaged in knowledge exchange, community discussions, and networking opportunities, all centred on the challenges, opportunities, and emerging solutions in research data management for the physical sciences.
This event was co-organised between The Physical Sciences Data Infrastructure (PSDI) and the Digital Curation Centre (DCC). PSDI accelerates research in the physical sciences, supporting researchers in chemistry, materials sciences and related fields by building on the data systems they already use. They provide access to diverse data sources, services, and tools, along with guidance and training for researchers and those who support them. The Digital Curation Centre is a world-leading centre of expertise in digital information curation with a focus on building capacity, capability and skills for research data management. Both initiatives are championing the need for better data, better tools, and better use of people to enable this change (aka data stewards), which is highly pertinent for CaSDaR.
In her presentation, Samantha championed the need for Data Stewards across the whole research data lifecycle, and provided an insight into CaSDaR (The Careers and Skills for Data-driven Research Network+), detailing our roadmap, deliverables, projects partners and team, and our overarching plans for the next four years.
