In November 2025, Dr Samantha Pearman-Kanza and Dr Louise Saul attended the Understanding dRTP Training Landscape Workshop. The audience for this session was dRTPs, people who are interested in furthering the careers of dRTPs, manage dRTPs, or develop organisational systems that rely heavily on the skills of dRTPs.
This was an in-person two-day event, held at Bidborough House at UCL, London on the 5th and 6th November 2025. This event was organised by CHARTED, DisCouRSE, and SCALE-UP to collaboratively build a comprehensive view of the current training landscape for digital Research Technical Professionals (dRTPs) and to understand the dRTP ecosystem in the UK. dRTPs are individuals who support research development and outcome delivery often through impact on the following three areas: research software, research data, and research infrastructure. This interactive event looked to build upon work that has already been done by other initiatives to identify gaps in training provision for dRTPs and to discover where these gaps are currently being filled. This is part of a body of work that seeks to support skills growth and professional development for dRTPs in the UK, funded by 4-year UKRI grants for Digital Research Infrastructure development through investment in people.
CHARTED, DisCouRSE and SCALE-UP are 4-year UKRI funded projects that seek to support professional development for dRTPs in the UK. Whilst this is not directly impacting CaSDaR’s audience, there are significant skills overlaps between dRTPs and Data Stewards therefore we will look to collaborate extensively with these projects in the future.
