CaSDaR Values & Philosophy

At CaSDaR our core values encompass inclusivity, collaboration, integrity, sustainability and recognition .

We believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to creating a robust and effective data stewardship community. By fostering a diverse range of perspectives, we can better understand the complex needs of Data Stewards and ensure that our data accurately reflects the world it represents. We are committed to embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles into all aspects of CaSDaR, from membership to funding opportunities. This includes creating inclusive spaces, providing accessible resources, and offering flexible support and funding options to accommodate diverse needs and circumstances, such as childcare costs for events, budget allocated to support neurodiverse people to complete administrative tasks, and allowable extensions to funding deadlines for extenuating circumstances. To promote inclusivity, a bursary fund will be established to support CaSDaR event attendance. Further information on how to apply for this will be made available soon.

Through our Network, we want to engender a sense of belonging for anyone involved in working with research data, in any discipline, at any stage of their career, with extra support for early career stage researchers to ensure they can progress on their optimum data-driven journey. We will actively promote teamwork and knowledge sharing amongst the data stewardship community to foster collaboration and contribution and strive to ensure that our research data is accurate, of high quality and managed in an ethical and responsible manner. Our intent is to create a Network and develop practices that will far outlive the remit of this grant to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of research data. Finally, we firmly believe that all types of contribution to research data should be recognised and accredited with the value they deserve.
