Inconsistent formats\, ambiguous entries\, and poorly documented variables can cause real headaches come analysis time – but many of these problems are avoidable with a bit of planning upfront. \nThis free\, beginner-friendly online training introduces practical approaches to collecting and documenting tabular data well. \nWhether you’re setting up a new dataset or trying to make sense of an existing one\, you’ll come away with tools and habits that will save you time down the line. \nLearning Outcomes\nBy the end of the session\, you’ll be able to: \n\nIdentify common variable types and understand how data is stored and interpreted\nSpot inconsistencies in datasets that could affect your analysis\nApply strategies to prevent messy data at the point of collection\nWrite clear data collection guidelines for yourself and your collaborators\nCreate a data dictionary to document your dataset\n\nExperience Required\nThere is no prior experience needed. DESCRIPTION:Join the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) for an interactive session introducing two new resources designed to support digital preservation advocacy: the Digital Preservation Advocacy Toolkit and the Novice to Know-How (N2KH) Advocacy Course\, which was conceived of and funded by The National Archives (UK). \nCreated to help digital preservation practitioners make the case more confidently for their work\, this 90-minute online event will offer a first look at both resources\, share practical examples of small but effective advocacy wins\, and connect participants with others working to build momentum for digital preservation within their own organizations. \nWhether you are just beginning to think about advocacy or looking for fresh ways to strengthen your message\, this session will provide practical ideas\, shared experiences\, and helpful first steps. \nRecordings\nThis session will be recorded and made available via this web page after the event. DESCRIPTION:It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by barriers to making data FAIR\, but when you realise that others have had the same problems AND have solutions\, life feels much better! \nHolly Ranger and the N8 CIR group have organised an online seminar titled “Tools for Data FAIRification – overcoming barriers in data discoverability and reuse” will take place on Tuesday\, 23 June from 13:00–15:00 (BST) with a focus on practical tools and approaches to improve how research data is managed\, shared\, and reused in line with FAIR principles (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, Reusable). Four separate speakers will share their stories and present the solutions they have found to improve their practices. \nThe programme includes four talks: \n\nStreamlining Data Management Planning – Kryštof Komanec discusses tools like the Data Stewardship Wizard to improve research data management practices.\nMaximising Data Reusability – Matthew Nichols explores methods and tools that enhance the discoverability and usability of environmental datasets.\nAutomated ReadMe Generation – Ali Abdurhman Kelil and Dag-Even Martinsen Torsøe present URGE\, a tool to help efficiently generate dataset documentation.\nElectronic Notebooks – Zuzanna Zagrodzka highlights how digital notebooks support transparency\, reproducibility\, and FAIR research practices.\n\nOverall\, the seminar showcases practical solutions and expert insights aimed at improving data management workflows and enabling better data sharing and reuse.
