DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the fifth session in the CaSDaR Data Stewardship Training series\, where we turn our attention to two deeply interconnected pillars of responsible data stewardship: data selection and long-term preservation. \nIn an era of ever-growing data volumes\, knowing what to keep\, how to keep it\, and for how long is one of the most consequential decisions a data steward can make. Poor selection and preservation practices put research outputs at risk of being lost\, inaccessible\, or unusable over time — undermining both the scientific record and the investment made in collecting the data in the first place. \nThis session will equip you with the frameworks\, tools\, and practical judgment needed to make sound decisions about data selection and to implement robust preservation strategies that stand the test of time. \nThis training session will be run by Digital Curation Centre (DCC). \nWhat You’ll Learn\nBy the end of this session\, you will be able to: \n\nApply structured criteria for selecting which data and research objects should be retained\, archived\, or disposed of\nUnderstand the key principles and standards underpinning long-term digital preservation\nAssess the risks to data longevity and put mitigation strategies in place

SUMMARY:DPC: iPRES 2026 Great Digital Preservation Bake Off
DESCRIPTION:Calling all technical whisk-takers; the iPRES 2026 Ad Hoc Programme is now open! \nThere are several categories available in the AdHoc programme\, including The Great Digital Preservation Bake Off\, which returns to iPRES 2026 (September 21-25 in Copenhagen). Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a first-timer\, we want to see your tools in action. \nThis year\, we are recruiting for two tracks: the Signature Home Bake and the Showstopper Pro Bake. The submission deadline is June 8th\, 2026. Submit via: https://forms.gle/K2WiG81RWB5E75hi9. \nParticipants will demonstrate how their tools address real-world challenges in digital preservation. Both seasoned and emerging tool developers have the opportunity to serve up and demonstrate the value and effectiveness of their digital preservation tools in a short\, timed presentation. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThe Fellowship of the Data — International RDM Community Meeting 2026 will take place on September 21 and 22 at the University of Vienna. Two Meetings have taken place in Germany already (2023 and 2025) with each ca. 80 participants from diverse backgrounds. Now\, we continue the series: Let’s get together in Vienna and cultivate our supportive environment dedicated to the advancement of RDM! \nContinuing the spirit of 2025: “The Fellowship of the Data is fueled by enthusiasm for Research Data Management (RDM) and networking. Founded by RDM trainers and data stewards\, we want to offer an open space for everyone with aligned interests that fosters our community bonds and allows us to find peers from many different contexts and scientific disciplines. We believe in the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing. By exchanging resources\, learning from each other’s experiences\, and forging synergistic teams\, we can learn how to better support researchers and stakeholders alike”. \nThe goal of our third RDM Community Meeting is to boost the fellowship of like-minded professionals who assist researchers across various fields in their RDM efforts\, whether through training or other means. SUMMARY:CaSDaR's Hybrid Data Steward Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThis hybrid conference organised by Careers and Skills for Data-driven Research (CaSDaR) brings together the growing data stewardship community to share progress\, showcase impact\, and shape the next phase of activity. This event is fully hybrid\, so all sessions will be available online and in-person at The Midland Hotel\, Manchester \nAs the volume and complexity of research data continues to increase\, the need for skilled Data Stewards remains critical. Over the past year\, CaSDaR has been working to strengthen recognition of the role\, support professional development\, and build a connected UK-wide community. This residential conference provides an opportunity to reflect on progress and contribute to what comes next. \nDay one will focus on data stewardship in practice whereas Day two will highlight CaSDaR’s activities to date and allow delegates to have an impact in CaSDaR’s future plans and deliverables through engaging in parallel breakout sessions. There will of course also be the opportunity to meet Cassie and grab some of her swag! \nWho should attend and why?\nThis conference is suitable for people who are interested in Data Stewardship\, practitioners such as librarians\, archivists\, technicians\, researchers who are interested in moving into the role\, and decision makers who are interested in how they can support the development of Data Stewardship at their organisation. Attendance at CaSDaR’s conference will promote: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNetworking – this is crucial in Data Stewardship roles where often the responsibilities are dispersed across roles or concentrated in one individual without a clear remit;\nKnowledge exchange – day one of the conference is highlighting disciplinary and organisational expamples of best practice in Data Stewardship; attendance will allow individuals to discuss these examples in more detail and make connections to support personal and organisational development;\nShare the results of any work – we are accepting applications to present your work as either a lightning talk or a poster;\nUnderstanding the funding landscape – in November 2025\, CaSDAR released its first round of funding. Throughout this conference\, we will share information about this process as well as invite talks from successful applicants in preparation for the release of the second round of CaSDaR’s funding; and\nInforming the future directions of CaSDaR – day two of the conference will involve five parallel hybrid breakout session to inform the future direction of CaSDaR in the areas of its key deliverables. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThe International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC) is an established annual event with a unique place in the digital curation community\, reaching out to individuals\, organisations and institutions across all disciplines and domains involved in curating data and providing an opportunity to get together with like-minded data practitioners to discuss policy and practice. \nThe 21st edition of the International Digital Curation Conference(IDCC27) will take place in Lisbon\, Portugal from 9 – 12 February 2027. The main theme of the conference is ”FAIR DO’s: Centring People in the Stewardship and Curation of Digital Objects.” The FAIR principles emphasise machine actionability\, but the increasing integration of artificial intelligence systems into data infrastructure carries the risk of marginalising people in the planning\, management\, and practice of digital curation. The theme of this year’s conference acknowledges the crucial role of people in making digital objects FAIR. \nSubmissions are now open for papers\, lightning talks\, posters\, demos and workshops.
